Plant Pathology
JHI is the sole UK establishment with the expertise in plant pathology and the facilities to produce pathogen tested (PT) foundation stocks of Rubus, Ribes and Fragaria.
JHI is an international centre for the supply of such PT germplasm for scientific and commercial use worldwide. Because of its reputation and integrity in this capacity, JHI has special relations with several countries whereby their strict quarantine regulations are relaxed for material originating as PT stock from JHI.
In addition to production of PT stocks, we can also offer a full range of pathogen testing services for Rubus, Ribes and Fragaria. These range from testing for a single pathogen to testing for the full range of pests and diseases affecting these stocks.
We have developed a website (www.fruithealth.co.uk) that includes information on the soft fruit pathogen testing services offered by MRS on behalf of JHI, information on prices and how to submit plant material for testing. In addition, the website has a password protected area where customers can view the current status of their material being tested and submit new applications.
Other Disease Testing
MRS is able to offer a range of other diagnostic tests for key pathogens of potato and soft fruit, including nematodes, fungal and bacterial pathogens. MRS supplies antibodies for potato pathogens that are available from Neogen UK Ltd (www.neogeneurope.com). Please contact us for more details.
The James Hutton Institute, including Mylnefield Research Services Ltd, is Officially Recognised by the Chemicals Regulation Directorate for efficacy testing in the categories of agriculture, horticulture, stored crops, biologicals and semiochemicals. We are able to carry out laboratory, glasshouse, poly-tunnel and field trials for crop protection products on a range of crops.
